Komen invites 100 cancer survivors to Big & Rich concert
“Pink Warrior” Candy Coburn is duo’s supporting act
One hundred cancer survivors will have a chance to see “Pink Warrior” Candy Coburn perform at the New York State Fair this summer, during a special promotion through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Coburn, a Komen celebrity ambassador and partner who recently released the single “Pink Warrior” to benefit the organization, will perform at the Fair’s Mohegan Sun Grandstand at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 4. She is the supporting act for Big & Rich, an eclectic country duo famous for its energetic stage performances.
Survivors interested in attending the show can register for the tickets at Komen’s Central New York Affiliate Website, www.komencny.org. The free tickets will be part of a special block of grandstand seats designated as the “Pink Warrior Section.”
The section, located in the lower center of the grandstand, will be general admission. Friends and family of survivors can buy tickets for $35 each from the New York State Fair Box Office, or by going through Ticketmaster and using the password “pink.”
Everyone in that section is encouraged to wear pink to show support for the cause. Candy Coburn will recognize the section from the Mohegan Sun Grandstand stage during her concert.
Kate Flannery, Executive Director of the Komen CNY Affiliate said, “we are so excited to have Candy perform at the Fair this year. Her’s is a fight song that can make a difference in many lives. Coburn’s words tell breast cancer survivors to keep fighting, never give up, be a Warrior!"
Coburn wrote the song “Pink Warrior” in memory of her grandmother and in honor of the millions of women who have battled – and continue to battle - breast cancer. She performed at the Komen Global Race for the Cure in Washington DC in June before a crowd of 45,000.
“Pink Warrior” is available for purchase on candycoburn.com, iTunes, walmart.com and bestbuy.com. Coburn is donating 100 percent of the proceeds of the song’s downloads to Komen for the Cure (a minimum of 40 cents per download). She has also given Komen the rights to play the song at all Komen events.
Coburn will visit the CNY Komen for the Cure Education booth in the Time Warner Building on the day of her performance and will meet and greet survivors and co-survivors at a special reception before the concert.
“The Fair is proud to assist Komen in raising public awareness of breast cancer and offering survivors and their families a fun evening at the Fair,” State Fair Director Dan O’Hara said. “Both Candy Coburn and Big & Rich put on a great show, and we’re confident everyone there will have a wonderful time.”
The New York State Fairgrounds this spring hosted the 2009 CNY Komen Race for the Cure, which featured 7,960 participants and was the largest in the race’s local history.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded by Nancy G. Brinker, who promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement.
The Central New York Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community. It connects more than 1 million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer.
Through events like the Komen CNY Race for the Cure®, the Central New York Affiliate has invested $3.9 miliion in community breast health programs in the Central New York 17-county service area. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in Central New York. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
